Junior Vice President & Honorary Assistant Secretary : Robert Hunter-Jones MSc.Ceng., MICE. MIstructE., FRICS
After leaving school, I took an HND course and latter qualified as a chartered civil engineer. I worked on various projects, including the Thames Barrier for the old GLC and spent three years in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi on civil engineering contracts. After returning to the UK, I rejoined the GLC, and qualified as a chartered civil structural engineer.
When the GLC ended, I worked as group leader in charge of specialist building control teams for the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. Having three major football grounds in the borough developed my knowledge of means of escape and building services issues.
After obtaining a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering and Foundations, I became deputy Head of Building Control at Islington Council. I then worked as a building control surveyor at Merton, where I was involved with Wimbledon’s new number 1 tennis court building, prior to joining the London Borough of Ealing’s building control department. My current role at Ealing is as Surveyors’ Manager.
For several years, I have lectured at the University of Westminster on a building control honours degree course and contributed to a post-graduate course in fire safety.
I was elected President of the Association in 2009.
