Building Control and Development Control are divided into area teams on a ward basis.

Building Control is quality assured to ISO 9002. An efficient plan checking and site inspection service is provided. Out of hours inspections can be arranged. Close liaison with Planning, Engineers Environmental Health. Member of LANTAC. Also responsible for dangerous structures (24 hour), demolitions and entertainment's licensing (technical).

Duty Surveyor and Planner available for general advice. Visitors parking at the Civic Centre. 24 hour personal mailbox answerphone. Information sheets, folder and handbook available.

Development Control deals with planning applications ensuring compliance with the unitary development plan and other planning criteria. Includes conservation, listed building and tree preservation issues, and control of advertisements. Also enforcement against unauthorised development. Pre-application meetings are encouraged.
